Ten Great Tips for Making Sure You Have Good Mental Health

In today’s busy, often scary world keeping control of all your faculties can seem impossible. While going to a therapist is one way to keep control of your mental health not all of us can afford that. So what I thought I would do is bring you ten tips to help you keep good mental health and none of them cost a single penny…

Talk About Your Feelings

Talk About Your Feelings

While this is easier said than done a lot of what goes on with a qualified therapist is just that…talking! It doesn’t have to be a family member or close personal friend. It could be a teacher or someone you work with. Or maybe just talk to someone online in a group relating to the things you are feeling. Maybe an online depression group or general mental health forum. You can also consult with qualified health experts online, like through an online doctor or an online pharmacy, such as The Independent Pharmacy. They’ll be able to assess your situation and direct you towards the best means of help or treatment should you need it.

Sleep Well...or as Well as You Can

Sleep Well…or as Well as You Can

When our mental health starts to take a dip one of the first things to be affected is our own sleep patterns. Sadly sleep is really important for our both out mental health and physical health! Even if it means taking some herbal sleeping pills to help you nod off I really do suggest trying all the tricks you can find to make sure you get a good nights sleep.

Keep Active, but Not Necessary Exercise

When someone tells you to “keep active” the first thing that might come to mind is endless hours of exercising and jogging. But that is not what keeping active is all about. Maybe have a little dance to a favourite song on your own, or even go for a walk around the shopping mall! Heck, even walking up and down your own stairs is classed as keeping active. Just try to do it every 30 mins or so.

Get Plenty of Sunlight

You don’t have to go for a walk to enjoy the sunlight. If you don’t like going outside just try and stand facing the window for 30 minutes while doing some relaxing breathing exercises. Sunlight is a really important vitamin for our brains as it can help our bodies produce both endorphins and serotonin.

Maybe this is doing some crafting, or just listening to music that you love. Do try and give yourself at least 20minuets of “me time” every single day. It really doesn’t matter what it is just so long as it puts a smile on your face.

Connect With Others

Connect With Others

I am not talking about poking a friend on Facebook or Snapchatting with them. I am talking about ringing someone, talking to someone face to face about anything and everything! By nature, we humans are sociable creatures and we crave interaction with other humans. So get out there and talk to people. Friends, family or even that nice chatty person on the tills in your local shop.

No Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs...well...not a Lot

They say everything is OK in moderation and while I would never suggest anyone starts drinking or doing drugs to make themselves happy, as long as it is only now and again and it does indeed make you happy then go for it. Just don’t become dependant on any of them and try to make it a sociable even, even if that means going to the local hemp or vaping shop.

Eat Well

Eat Well

This is no me telling you to give up all meat and eat lettuce for the rest of your life. It is me telling you to be more knowledgeable about what you are eating. Is that microwave meal really that nice? I bet it would taste a lot nicer if you made it from scratch with fresh ingredients. Who knows, it might be something you get into. There are lots of cooking classes around these days, so why not take eating well up as a hobby!

Laugh as Much as You Can

Maybe watch your favourite comedy film, or read some silly jokes. Whatever makes you laugh even if its silly cat videos on YouTube try and do it as much as you can. Why not download and watch some Tic-Tok videos as some of those always make me laugh. But then again I laugh at people falling over in mud so that is not saying much.

Don't Just Look After Yourself

Don’t Just Look After Yourself

Have you noticed a friend under a lot of stress recently? Or maybe a work colleague who is snowed under with work? Why not offer just a single hour a day of your own time caring and helping others! Even if that means helping an old lady cross the road or mowing someone’s lawn because they have injured themselves and can’t do it. Helping others is great for your own self-esteem and will make both them and yourself feel pretty good.

Do you have any other mental health tips? Why not leave them in the comments below as sharing your knowledge with everyone could also count as helping others!
