Using Adsense is simple right? Insert the code on your site, sit back and forget about it and keep making the best content you possibly can. But if you go into your Adsense account via the webpage or app you might find some things that could be utilized that could be earning you even more of that lovely Adsense revenue…
Payment Threshold – Found in Payments > Settings
If you are just starting out with your YouTube channel or blog you are probably getting pennies from Adsense every day. So why not set a higher Payment Threshold yourself and save all those pennies so it would be a nice surprise when it comes. You can even save up for 1 years worth of Adsense, just imagine how handy that might be at Christmas time! Even if you are just using it to save up for a smartphone it is a feature that is vastly underused.
Custom Search Engines – Found in Ads for Search > Custom search engines
Do you have a search box on your website? If you do you could be earning even more money whenever people use that exact feature! While it does require you to insert more code you might be surprised at just how much you can earn from it.
Adsense For Video – Found in Ads > Other Products
Do you have videos hosted on your site? If you do you could be earning some Adsense revenue without the use of embedding YouTube code! This is another feature that a lot of sites should be using but don’t so if you do host even the smallest of videos you should try and earn some revenue from it.
Ad Styles – Found in Ads > Ad styles
This is one of those features most people will leave well alone, but it is a good way of earning a few extra Adsense pennies. All you need to do is try and contrast your ad block colours to the colour of the background of your site. So white background, Black ads, or if you have a yellow background on your site try red ad blocks! By playing around with these settings you can make your ads easier to see and thus prevent a little bit of Ad blindness!

Ad balance – Found in Ads > Ad balance
Whenever you set up an Adsense account and insert the code this “ad balance” will be set to 50%. That could mean you are not showing any ads at all to 50% of all site viewers! While Adsense themselves claim 50% or lower offers a “Better User Experience” my own tests with this feature showed it wasn’t true at all, so crank it up to 100% because why would you not what to show people your ads all of the time?!?
Auto Ads For AMP – Found in Ads > Auto ads > Auto Ads For AMP
While most people don’t even know what AMP’s (Accelerated Mobile Pages) are let alone use them on their sites this is a feature many people who do use them forget. It is hard enough trying to get AMP’s posts to show any ads so this feature really is a godsend. Just a side note: if you don’t know what AMP’s are and are now thinking of integrating them into your site I really wouldn’t unless you are VERY good with site coding and fully understand exactly what they are.
Ad Units – Found in Ads > Ad Units
If you are just starting out with using Adsense on a blog or site it is OK to simply insert that Auto Ads code and forget about it. But those of us who like to eke out every single penny from Adsense these individual Ad units are essential. Being able to choose the right size, the right style for each ad location on your site is one of the best ways to boost your Adsense revenue. Sure, its a lot of extra work, especially when trying to make sure the ads are all mobile friendly, but take the time to get to learn each of these Ad units and their pros-cons and you could be earning significantly more of that Adsense revenue.
Opportunities – Found in Optimisation > Opportunities
Unless you sign in to your Adsense account regularly this is something you probably won’t even notice. But now and again Adsense themselves notices you are not using the testing feature (more on this later) so they set up small earnings boosting opportunities for you to click on or off! Some are just buttons and others are full ad experiments. While these “opportunities are often few and far between they are definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

In-Article Ads – Found in Ads > Ad Units > New Ad Unit
This is where you will find problems with using the Adsense Autoads feature. It might not use this type of native advertising in your ads and yet it is the ad unit that will bring you the most revenue! By using this ad block in the middle and end of your content I promise your ad revenue will be boosted more than you would ever think possible. Also “in-feed ads” and “Matched Content” are both amazing ad units that auto ads don’t use.
Experiments – Found in Optimisation > Experiments
This is one of the most underused Adsense features and yet it is the one you should be using every day. By setting up A/B ad experiments you can boost your Adsense earnings tenfold and yet this is still something most people with an active Adsense account don’t use. Don’t be scared to do some ad testing yourself, they are easy to set up and often give you valuable insights as to what your site visitors are doing.
