Game of Thrones is now the undisputed best drama series of all time, and Daenerys Targaryen, every little girl’s hero. Emilia Clarke was the woman tasked with portraying this legendary character, and her life is almost as interesting as that of Daenerys. She had an astonishingly simple life before taking the role to be the Mother of Dragons, then her life changed drastically. From escaping a close call with death to becoming one of the most sought-after actresses in the world, Emilia Clarke can be fairly described as a spectacle of the art industry.
Her Humble Beginnings
Emilia Clarke was born Emilia Isobel Euphemia Rose Clarke in Westminster, England, on the 23rd of October 1986, but she rarely uses her many middle names. Her mother is a businesswoman while her dad is a theatre sound engineer and was also her only connection to the theatre. Acting was her dream role as she developed the desire for it after watching Show Boat with her dad, aged just two.
She then started acting in school plays, although she had a hard time remembering her lines most of the time. Her first professional role came when she was just 10 when she was to play on stage in The Goodbye Girl, but she couldn’t sing the song they needed in auditions, so she was rejected. Her career picked off after her role in the soap opera Doctors a few years later.
She Wants To Be The Female James Bond
Daniel Craig is now one f the most famous faces as James Bond, but he is expected to step down from the role after No Time To Die. The rumour of his exit raised mixed reactions as many fans across the world proposed a female star to become the next James Bond, and who else if note the former Mother of Dragons?
When asked in an interview whether she would accept the role, she said, “ Of Course, Hell to the Yeah.” She said she would make “the naffest James Bond ever, and it would be cool.” Taking up the role would make her the first and probably the coolest James Bond ever.
She Always Dreamed Of Acting In The Terminator
Emilia Clarke was the second Game Of Thrones star to play Sara Conor in Terminator after Lena Headey, who plays Cersei, played Sarah in Terminator: Sarah Conor Chronicles. Emilia grew up adoring Arnold Schwarzenegger as he played the Terminator, and so she was thrilled when she made it to become Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys. The film’s ratings weren’t favourable, though, as critics ranked it as one of the worst films in the Terminator franchise. Clarke’s dream was fulfilled and she was relieved when the movie flopped because she wouldn’t have to be called for a Sequel as she was too committed at the time.
She Wasn’t The Original Daenerys
When the original cast list for Game Of Thrones came out in 2009, Emilia Clarke was not on the list. Tamzin Merchant was the original choice and even went to Morocco and shot the pilot episode of the legendary Daenerys. However, when the filming of season one started, Merchant didn’t show up, and so Emilia was listed as the new Daenerys. Merchant’s performance had been praised by the writer of Game Of Thrones books George R. R. Martin, but she chose to play Catherine in BBC’s The Tudors over Daenerys. Her decision gave Emilia the chance to prove her talent on the big screens.
She Was A Bartender When She Got The Role Of Emilia Clarke
Life wasn’t easy for Emilia Clarke after graduating drama school as big roles weren’t easy to come by. To get by, Emilia had to work six jobs and got fired from multiple jobs, including a data entry job, because she just wasn’t good at it. When she finally got the call from her agent to audition for Game of Thrones, she was working as a bartender. She confessed that she was a terrible bartender, but she had to do it to pay the rent. She called in sick to create time for the auditions and probably got the chance to quit when she finally got the role.

She Was Uncomfortable With The Nudity In Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones was an intense show with lots of violence and nudity that Emilia wasn’t used to before. She had to shoot some of the most explicit scenes of the show from her first season, first with Jason Momoa then with Kit Harrington. She also had to shoot other scenes as the naked Daenerys walking through the fire.
While her performance and bravery were praised, her confessions after the end of the show caused some media houses to call for a review of how nude scenes are shot. She had a hard time posing nude on set and confessed that she had to call for breaks to go and cry in the middle of production.
She Told Her Mom About How Game Of Thrones Would End
The end of Game of Thrones was one of the most anticipated events in the world in 2019. All the stars remained tight-lipped as they are required to be before the show is released, but the pressure on Emilia was just too high. Giving away information on what happens in the show is considered a violation of contract, so Emilia never talked about her slip up until long after the show was released. She remained tight-lipped about the show in her numerous interviews before the release of Season 8, but when her mon asked how it ended, she had to tell her. Her mom was probably the least shocked person about the end of Game of thrones then.
She Nearly Died From An Aneurysm
Emilia Clarke had a horrifying experience that nearly ended her life twice before Game Of Thrones Ended. Her first aneurysm, which didn’t need open surgery, happened after the first season of the show. The worst came when she had to have surgery after finishing Season Three, and part of her skill all the way to the ear had to be replaced with Titanium after the aneurysm was removed.
She thought she would lose her memory even if she survived the surgery, but her mother’s support helped her get through it. She felt like she had come out of a greater battle than the ones Daenerys had been through when she finally recovered. Her scar also healed nicely, so fans didn’t notice it when she came back to the set.
Kit Harrington Had A Hard Time Playing Her Lover
Emilia wasn’t the only person that had a hard time shooting sex scenes in Game of Thrones. She had developed a strong bond with Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, and it got in the way of their work. Many people even thought that she was romantically involved with Harrington because of their unique connection on the set, although that wasn’t substantiated. Kit Harrington had to pretend to be upset on set for him to get into character. He later got over it and managed to shoot all the scenes. Harrington said that the sex scene was strange because Emilia was his best friend.
Her Family And Love Life
The close relationship between Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke led to speculation that the two were dating, but Harrington has a fiancé, so Clarke’s love life became a mystery again. She was rumoured to be dating the filmmaker and director Charles McDowell, but that seems to have ended after a short while.
She was also seen alongside The Crown star Matt Smith recently, but she hasn’t confirmed her relationship with anyone so far. She doesn’t have any kids yet, but she is close to her mum and dad. She also has an elder brother Bennet Clarke who was part of the Game Of Thrones crew.
