Top 10 Incredible Examples of Makankosappo

Now and again I like to bring something a little more unusual to the table for us all to take a look at and this is one of those posts. It is all about the art of Makankosappo. It literally “Magic Penetrating Killing Ray” and is basically an Internet meme which started with Japanese schoolgirls photographing themselves apparently using, and being affected by, the special attack of the same name in the popular Dragon Ball franchise. I know it sounds weird, but I hope you will find it as amazing as I do as I bring you…

6 – Wave Attack

What makes this one so amazing is what they have done with the sand! So not only does it look like the people have been affected by the energy wave, but the very ground itself looks like it has been effected, great set-up and perfect timing make this great art indeed.

5 – Uppercut!

This “uppercut punch” style is called a Shoryuken and is inspired by Ken from Street Fighter fame. One of the hardest to make it look good and this image is a great example of it. Must have taken ages to get this one just right.

3 – The Dark side of Hadoukening

The nerd in me loved this and thought it was a fantastic example of Makankosappo. Just because it isn’t in the form of an energy “wave” doesn’t mean it doesn’t look incredible.

2 – Super Gran!

This amazing image goes to show that you are never too old to take part in this form or art because even if you can’t mimic being hit by the invisible energy wave you can mimic doing it and the fun-loving lady got it just right.

  4. Well no really! The rest are doing crunch jumps or toe touch jumps, it just looks worse for them. I have to say that this post went down a lot better than I thought it would, people really seemed to enjoy it.

  5. I’m for Darth Vader as well. At least they all land on their feet, everyone else seems to be about to land on their tush – ouch! I marvel at the ability to have everyone in the right position at the same time, wonder how many takes before it was just right?

  6. Absolutely! it truly was a full arcade conversion. What a video game milestone that was. hmmm, actually I would place that as #1 for your Top 10 video game milestone category.lol

  7. I remember the epic day when super streefighter2 was released in first ever portable form for SNES system, it ruined many students’ lives

  8. Totally! It does take ages, and some of these images would have to be done hundreds of times to get them just right. I will have to try one myself to find out how hard it is to do.

  9. I didn’t know that was what it was called – that’s pretty darn cool! The nerd in me loved Darth Vader, but Grandma came in a close second! Oh – and the beach scene, using the sand – that’s just brilliant. now I have to go try Makankosappo!

  10. These are pretty cool. The effects are great but I imagine after a while of setting up many shots, you would all be able to channel that energy.

  11. Wow Russell! You’ve done it again! You’ve outdone yourself again!

#6 and #3 are my two favorites!

  12. These are all awesome! Me and my brother and my sister really want to do one, I think it would be one for the family album, no? haha

  13. Absolutely fabulous and great fun. Such joy to see ingenuity. Years back I learned from Tai Chi Master, Professor Chin M’an Ching. When he did the sword form, the tassles at the end of the handle stood out horizontally from his energy. And he, really, could knock people over who were walking too close behind him without losing a step or turning. So this is life immitating art immitating life. And a tribute to the mental capacity of us all.
