Ten of the Very Best Hotels in Berkshire, England (Based on Personal Experience)

From the moment you drive into its boundaries, there is a touch of class and style to Berkshire that gives it that Royal County approval. What might surprise you about this home county is how good most the hotels in the area are. While I haven’t stayed in all of them I have stayed in more than enough to make a judgment on what some of the best are and that is what this list is, ten of the very best hotels in Berkshire, England…

This beautiful Victorian building retains many of its original features, but yet the rooms are also strangely modern and upscale. While I wouldn’t say this is a family-friendly hotel it is a wonderful place to stay on your own or with a loved one. If you plan to go to the races located nearby this is the perfect place to stay.

If you want to stay the night or longer in Berkshire and want to do it in luxury this is the hotel for you. Built in 1666 this 17th-century mansion (now converted into a hotel of course) has a spa, outdoor pool and some of the finest dining for miles around. Sure, it costs an arm and a leg, but stay there for one night and you will realise why you paid so much.

If you are planning on visiting Windsor Castle and staying nearby this contemporary hotel with free Wi-Fi and its upscale restaurant is the perfect stay. While not the cheapest it is very close to Windsor Castle and not as expensive as you might imagine. While this hotel can get busy in peak season they never let service and standards slip.

I just want to say that I am just showing you ten of the very best hotels in this area and in or around Windsor they are pretty expensive. That doesn’t mean all the hotels in this area are pricy, it just means these ones I have chosen are the best of the bunch. Anyway, back to this hotel…it is located very close to the Royal Windsor Racecourse and not that far from Windsor Castle. With quaint quarters and all the modern amenities, a nights stay here is the perfect retreat.

While still pretty pricy it is one of the best prices for its class in Newbury and you would be shocked at how much luxury you get for that price as well. With large rooms, an 18-hole golf course and of course a relaxing spa this hotel offers it all and doesn’t overcharge which is a refreshing change given the area it is located in.

If you like your hotels to be upscale and refined this is the place for you. Located just a short walk from the Maidenhead Golf Course and pretty close to Maidenhead town centre it is the perfect out of central location and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg which is nice. With a pretty great restaurant and spa with pools, this is one hotel that will relax you the moment you step foot in the door.

Like many of the hotels that are repurposed country estates this one has all the luxury you’ll need. From pools to its gold course and even a really nice hotel and bar. Located close to the Museum of English Rural Life and the medieval Mapledurham House there is a lot to do around the area making it well worth staying a few nights rather than just the one.

OK, so this hotel doesn’t have many of the amenities others in the same area do, but it does offer a really great price for what you do get. It is a traditional Victorian country house with landscaped grounds and a nice restaurant to boot. If you plan on visiting the Wokingham Theatre this is the place you should stay at.

With many of the other hotels on this list being repurposed manors this modern place with its free WiFi, meeting spaces, upscale dining and even a spa and pool stands out from the crowd. With its large rooms and clean appearance you can’t help but be impressed with this hotel and best of all it is only a few miles away from Newbury Racecourse!

Sure, this is just a chain hotel, but I have to give it credit for holding its own in the area it is located in on both price and services on offer. Once again located very close to Newbury Racecourse it features sleek rooms, free WiFi, meeting spaces and a very nice dining experience that many people goto just for the food.
