Ten Strengths and Qualities Having BPD Gives You

You might think having a mental health disorder like Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is pretty much all bad from start to finish, but there are some benefits that it gives you. While many of these will come about when you are on the road to recovery some of them are parts of the disorder and just looked at in a different light. None of these traits you are about to read is triggering and some might even make people with BPD smile…

While most the time BPD will get you down there are times when you are on the uprise that you feel untouchable. While you can look at this as being reckless and endangering your own life doing crazy things others might well see it as extreme bravery. Sure, this is an odd one, but I made me smile.

Deeply Loving

While people with BPD do tend to push away their loved ones this is mostly down to their heightened emotions for that person! Sure, we might push away, but deep down we love them more than any other person could, something that should be seen as a good thing.

Heightened Compassion

Heightened Compassion

People with BPD suffer from heightened emotional…senses. This is not their own sense, but the ability to “sense” other peoples emotions. This, in turn, leads to people with BPD being much more compassionate to fellow humans, particularly people who are ill, depressed or anxious.

Inner Strength

Inner Strength

Unless you have suffered from BPD yourself you won’t understand the strength and endurance needed to get on with your life (you never truly get over BPD, you just learn to live with it). That inner strength needs to be strong and once you start to learn to live with the disorder you should be able to face most problems in life head on without much bother.

Because people with BPD are extra sensitive to their surroundings we do tend to be a lot more curious than normal people. We will explore that dark cave, we will go towards that sound and they are drawn to people who seem emotionally upset, regardless if you know them or not.

Highly Protective

While people with BPD don’t tend to care what happens to themselves they do care about ALL others around them. While many times this will manifest itself into extreme aggression you could also see it as being protective…maybe just going about it the wrong way. Don’t ever upset a friend or loved one of a BPD sufferer as you might get to see this trait in full action.

Heightened Empathy

This is once again due to the heightened emotional reading BPD gives you. If you have BPD you will find that you try and relate to anyone going through just about anything! This leads to people with BPD offering a much stronger support network than normal people which is kind of ironic as the one thing people with BPD need the most is a strong support network!

Spontaneity

When you are “on the up” with BPD you will do just about anything anywhere. While being super impulsive does have some negative points it also makes for much better pictures, memories and fun times.

People with BPD can be super creative at times. This is mostly down to them trying to distract themselves from the emotional rollercoaster they are going through, but it can also make them great musicians, good artists and even amazing bloggers and book writers.

A True Fighter

If you have suffered from BPD you will know how much effort it takes to fight each day, one step at a time and it forever feels like an uphill battle. But going on every day means you are a true fighter and willing to wade through the depression and bad times. Even going to therapy often takes a lot out of you, but by going regularly you are showing your strength.
