What I really enjoy about these Caturday posts is when people start to tell me about all the crazy and silly things that their cats do and enjoy. From chasing a dust fairy to running up walls, it makes me smile and it always nice to hear when people are enjoying owning a cat. This post is about a growing band of people who have told me that once a year they bath their cats! Not only do cats need this from time to time, but some even enjoy it! 10 – “Do I look like a bar of soap to you, get me out of here!”

TIP: Why not think about bathing the cat with yourself! Why you will have to use cat shampoo in the bath it still smells just as nice and doesn’t harm humans. Best of all the cat might well be a lot calmer in your loving arms.

9 – “A shower is OK I guess, just like raining indoors! But I would rather be outside.”

TIP: If your cat really hates bath time try calmly talking to it, but always make sure you have a good grip on the neck or shoulders.

8 – “The only duck I want to play with is the one where your ducking to avoid my claws!!!”

TIP: If you are worried about scratches and claw marks why not lightly trim your cat’s nails before even attempting to bathe it. Done slowly and this will not cause you cat too much stress.

7 – “Smile on, because when I get out of here you will pay with blood.”

TIP: To make it easier on yourself and better for the cat, try combing the cat’s fur thoroughly before putting the cat in the water. This helps remove knots and tangles before wetting the fur.

6 – “WHAT THE?!? You need to learn to knock the door before you enter dad! Sheesh!”

TIP: A cat that is covered in something greasy will be very difficult to clean using just shampoo, so try rubbing some vegetable oil into first as this really will break it up and make it easy to clean, it might sound like a strange tip, but it apparently works a treat.

5 – “Can you pass my bathrobe please mum, I wanted to keep my hair dry.”

Tip: When it comes to using shampoo on your cat make sure you only use a shampoo that states on the bottle that it’s for cats! This is important to remember because many other shampoos can, in fact, be highly toxic to them!

4 – “………I hate you.”

Tip: Try and have some buckets or watering cans beside the bath to allow the flow of water while rinsing the cat. This is so you don’t run the water during the bath time which might frighten it.

3 – “Is it true that if I keep playing with the plug I will be sucked down with the bathwater?”

Tip: Never fill the bath too high. Just 4-5 inches of warm water is enough and always remember to fill it before bringing your cat into the bathroom since some cats can be scared of running water.

2 – “For I am your king! Bow before me puny human!”

Tip: Go for teamwork! By getting two people involved in washing your cat (even the smallest of cat can have a strong kick and wriggle) One person should hold its legs and hold the jaw shut so it can’t bite you. It sounds nasty but it better than your cat getting flies!

1 –  “This is OK I guess, but where is my ickle duckie?”

TIP: Wear the appropriate clothing because it is important to wash your cat, but it is also very important to keep safe from any possible scratches.
