Top 10 Amazing Sculptures Made of Drinks Cans

I am not the kind of guy that people would instantly associate with the being an “Art Lover”, sure I do appreciate a good painting like the Mona Lisa but when it comes to modern art I just have not got a clue. But when a fellow nerdette makes art then I naturally enjoy it because that artist has been inspired by the same things that I like! But there aren’t many modern artists that have done enough to warrant a whole top 10 inspired solely by their work. But Japanese artist “Makaon” has done just that and it does bring me great pleasure to bring you just a small selection of her work…

  3. Any idea if we can get one? My boyfriend is obsessed with Batman and would love one of these! 😀

  4. These are bleedin’ BRILLIANT! love Darth Vader and the Stormtrooper. Makes me wish I had some sort of practical artistic skills. Alas I don’t. I’ll just have to stick to writing…
    🙁

  5. Yup – at age 7, he had the following colors:
Blue, green, red (double darth sidius style), pink & purple.

He also drooled over the ‘Build your own Real Light Saber” display at the local Best Buy – for like, $299 – – by the time I thought I might be able to afford it, he had outgrown his need for a closet full of light sabres – –
    🙂

  6. Although, come to think of it, they did market a Pink Light saber one year – and a purple one….(my youngest simply had to have one of each color – – )

    Maybe a cross-marketing approach… 🙂

  7. Oh yes, I’m definitely a Star Wars fan – – can you imagine “Computer Geek” Barbie – comes with a pink slide rule and calculator with pink rhinestones on it – – LOL

  8. Henry Moores art is a little too far out there for me, I just can’t relate to it. But that is why there is so much art out there because we all like different things!

  9. Oh, I couldn’t choose – I grew up on my little pony, graduated to Pokémon on Gameboy and then had a love affair with Star Wars, so these all really speak to me !

  10. I have never heard of Makaon before, thanks for sharing something new with me and the world. She has quite a touch for shape as well as putting character into each one. I am not big on modern art myself, but there is something about certain artists and their pieces – Henry Moore is one of my favorites – that speaks to me, though I am not always sure exactly what it is.

  11. I really enjoyed this post. I’m not creative myself but I love looking at the work done by others. Wow! I’ll never look at a can the same way again.

  12. These are incredible works of art! I wonder how many little cuts there are on the hands of the artist. Dangerous medium to work with, mind you thirst would never be an issue. 😉 Another great Top 10!

  13. I know tell me about it! I men how do you realise you can make this sort of thing in the first place?!? I have been playing with Play-dough for years and only just managed to make a half decent sausage!!!

  14. I really enjoy your blog and this post was fab. Like you, I often feel lost when it comes to modern art, so learning about Makaon’s creative sculptures made this post doubly sweet!

  15. These are superb and an from a Japanophile, that is praise indeed. My only thing is, there not a Hello Kitty one!!! But I would be very happy with the Darth Vader one to get my geek on. You always come up with such good stuff. I love your postings.

  16. I love these. I think what really ticks the box is the humble material that the artist uses to make these great images. Drinks cans are normally discarded and trashed, but these ones have been elevated.

  17. I don’t know much about art either, so I judge it by whether or not I like it, regardless of who did it…works for me…these are amazing…Makaon is an amazing artist!!! don’t you wonder how people come up with these ideas??? I certainly do… 🙂

  18. Very creative things people have sculpted 🙂 Your top ten posts (cats waiting in particular) crack me up!!
