10 – Eiffel Tower, France – Tallest Tower Reign: 1889 – 1958 – (Pinnacle Height: 312.3 m – 1,024 ft)
Not only pretty tall, but it weighs over 10,000 tonnes! As a strange fact, the tower shrinks and then grows by almost 6″ every year as it gets hotter and colder! Meaning it depends on what time of the year exactly how tall it was!
9 – Tower of Cologne Cathedral, Germany -Tallest Tower Reign: 1880 – 1889 – (Pinnacle Height: 157.38 m – 516 ft)
The very first ground stones when down on the ground to build this Cathedral in 1248, but it took 632 years (1880) before it was finished! While there is of course 2 towers the northern tower is taller than the southern one!

While the outside of this amazing cathedral is pretty impressive the inside of it features some of the worlds greatest brickwork and art the world has ever seen.

Once upon a time, this was part of a much larger church, but WWII happened and most of it was destroyed. These days it is constantly being renovated and even has a lift installed that goes up 75 meters (246 ft)!

Known as one of the most beautiful gothic cathedrals in Europe it is said to stand on the site of a roman temple that was built on a little hill above the muddy ground.

Said to be one of the best looking pieces of architecture in the UK it was the first building to hold the title of “worlds tallest building” since the Great Pyramid of Giza!
3 – Tower of Old St Paul’s Cathedral, UK – Tallest Tower Reign: 1240 – 1311 – (Pinnacle Height: 150 m – 492 ft)
Located on one of the highest points in the whole of London this impressive building was a dedication to Paul the Apostle. Even today this church is in constant use from prayer times to weddings and funerals.

2 – Malmesbury Abbey Tower, UK – Tallest Tower Reign: 1180 – 1240 – (Pinnacle Height: 131.3 m – 430 ft)
Not only a pretty impressive tower in its time, it was also the site that was used for one of the worlds first attempts at human flight when the monk Eilmer of Malmesbury attached wings to his body and flew from a tower. Believe it or not, he even survived (with a few broken bones)!
1 – Pharos Lighthouse, Egypt – Tallest Tower Reign: 280 BC – 1180 AD – (Pinnacle Height: 122 m – 400 ft)
This record-breaking lighthouse was, of course, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and it remained one of the tallest man-made structures in the world for several centuries, but it is still known today as the third longest surviving ancient wonder.
