They say the two things you can’t live without are taxes and parking tickets and that may well be true because those things are a nuisance in every country. However, parking regulations are vital for the free flow of traffic in cities and sometimes, to save lives. All you expect for illegal parking is a parking ticket or getting your car towed for which you will be charged a lot of money. Illegal parking can get out of hand sometimes though accruing some huge punishments that car owners never expected.
Car Filled With Concrete
It happened in Russia back in 2013 when a man got mad at finding an illegal parker blocking his car. He got a baseball bat and smashed the car’s windows before releasing the handbrake and then pushing the car out of the way. The angry man took matters to the next level when he called a cement truck and had the poor car filled with wet concrete as amused onlookers recorded the incident. The car owner will probably never do that to another driver again if he managed to get that one running again.
Water Hose Through The Window
Parking in front of the fire hydrant is one of the most common violations in most countries and most drivers don’t understand the danger until a fire starts nearby. In 2020, a BMW driver parked his car in the Bronx in front of a fire hydrant. Unfortunately for the driver, the battery to the key fob died and the car stayed in front of the hydrant for four days until a fire broke out nearby and the hydrant next to his car was the closest one to the fire. The firefighters smashed his front windows and passed their hose through the car.
Buried in Garbage
It happens more times than you can imagine. People pack in the garbage loading zones of the building and that means that trash collected can’t be moved easily. There is a whore Reddit thread of pictures showing how such drivers are punished and one made headlines in 2019. The owner of the car was recorded struggling to enter his car which was totally buried in trash bags and garbage spilt all over it. There was absolutely no way of getting that car out of there.
When you offend the city so much, chances are they will come for your car because you get too many tickets. 2020 was a pandemic year and there weren’t many cars on the road but that didn’t stop one car in Ealing, London from racking up £43,915 in parking tickets. None of it had been paid by the end of the year so the city probably came for that car; if it was worth that much anyway.
500 Days in Jail
Parking tickets are not recorded as felonies so you may wonder how this one happened. Well, back in 2009, an Austrian woman was sent to jail for 500 days after she ignored calls by the municipal authorities urging her to pay €24,000 in parking tickets that she had racked up over two years.
Getting Shot For Bad Parking
Gun violence in Philadelphia is on a whole other level and boxing someone in on a parking spot could get you shot. In February 2022, in Center City, a delivery driver was shot after he parked over two parking spots and blocked someone in their car making it impossible to open the door. The boxed-in driver got out and complained but the bad parker wasn’t having any of it and punched him in the face instead. It got violent as the boxed in driver proceeded to his car, pulled out a gun and shot the delivery driver. Luckily for the delivery guy, a good Samaritan drove him to the hospital, and he will probably never box someone else in again.
Totalled by a Fire Truck
Parking in front of a fire hydrant is one thing but blocking the exit of a firehouse is just too selfish. This happened in the city of Nanchang, in Jiangxi, China were fire trucks leaving the firehouse found the exit blocked. The larger of the two trucks had to smash into a Land Rover and a Sedan parked on both sides of the exit to get a way through. Luckily for the Sedan driver, they managed to show up on time and drive off before their car was totalled like the Land Rover was.
Damaged by Fire Fighters
The NYPD used the driver of the Volkswagen in this case as a lesson for others that park in front of the hydrant. It is not clear why they don’t just pass the hose under the car, but in this case, the firefighters smashed through a poor Volkswagen to get the water to a burning building. The NYPD proceeded to give the smashed car a $115 ticket and tweet pictures of the incident. The picture received over 60,000 views with mixed reactions.
Barrier Construct Around Car
Construction workers can do a lot of damage to your car when you block their workspace with your car as they did to this poor car owner in Singapore. The driver of the BMW called the police for help in moving the heavy concrete barriers surrounding the car. It is not clear how he got himself into that problem with the road construction workers but that must have cost a lot.
Have you ever met one of those drivers who take your parking spot just when you are trying to reverse into it? Well, not everyone is nice enough to drive off and look for another spot. In 2016, two women got into a brawl at Laundromat in South Western Avenue, LA after a BMW SUV driver took the parking spot just as another SUV was reversing to park there. When the person whose spot was taken and who got the better part of the beating got into her car, she reversed into the BMW and the two drivers went into a full-on war of SUVs. By the time they were done, both cars were damaged and the city had a broken hydrant to fix.
