The Top 10 Longest Steel Roller Coasters in the World

We have already seen the worlds tallest wooden and steel coasters but now it is a question of length. While most coasters are over in well under a minute these rides you are about to see last a little while longer and to the riders, they seem to go on forever…

The Top 10 Longest Steel Roller Coasters in the World

10 – Steel Force in Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, United States – Total Length: 5,600 ft (1,700 m)

Since it opened in 1997 this ride has made it into every top ten list of peoples top 10 steel coasters in the world, but a lot of it will be down to peoples nostalgia for the ride rather than the quality of ride itself that I can tell you is pretty bone shaking.

Mamba in Worlds of Fun, United States

9 – Mamba in Worlds of Fun, United States – Total Length: 5,600 ft (1,700 m)

This 2 hill lift coaster opened way back in 1998 and at the time cost only 10 million USD. These days that money wouldn’t pay for the design bill for many of the other coasters on this list.

8 – Desperado in Buffalo Bill’s, United States – Total Length: 5,843 ft (1,781 m)

This hypercoaster is one of the slowest in the world and only reaches a top speed of 80 MPH. But then again this does help to make the ride time of 2 minutes, 43 seconds a little smoother for its riders.

It might look like a wooden coaster but this is a steel coaster that has been open since 2001 and has the claim to fame of being one of the park’s original rides when it first opened!

Formula Rossa in Ferrari World, United Arab Emirates

Once called the “F1 Coaster” it subjects its riders to a blackout-inducing 4.8 g for well over a minute and a half reaching a top speed of 150 MPH (240 KPH). It’s so fast in fact that all riders are required to wear protective glasses!

Millennium Force in Cedar Point, United States

5 – Millennium Force in Cedar Point, United States – Total Length: 6,595 ft (2,010 m)

This was the first roller coaster to use a cable lift system rather than a traditional chain lift which at the time made it rather unique. While it doesn’t have any inversions it does fly around the track at almost 100 MPH!

2 – The Ultimate in Lightwater Valley, United Kingdom – Total Length: 7,442 ft (2,268 m)

Having been on this ride myself I can tell you there really isn’t much queuing time at all thanks to its super-long cars that can carry up to 38 riders, that’s 78 riders every 5 minutes!

1 – Steel Dragon 2000 in Nagashima Spa Land, Japan – Total Length: 8,133 ft (2,479 m)

With its 2 tunnels and incredible length, you could forgive for this ride using more steel than any other coaster in the world. But it also has extra steel for earthquake protection to keep both the ride and riders safe even in the event of a natural disaster.
