Have you ever seen a supercarrier on a motorway or even on a main road? These super heavy trucks and vehicles carry some of the worlds largest things and they do it on normal roads that you and I drive on. Today I will be taking a look at ten of the biggest and craziest things ever transported by road…
Wind Turbines
Most of us would imagine the blades of a wind turbine being built onsite and transported in small packages. But that is not how they do it at all, the blads of all wind turbines are transported to the sites by trucks, only these are not normal trucks.
Large Construction Beams
If you have ever been across a suspension bridge or maybe seen large steel beams and wondered how they got them to the construction site in the first place the answer is probably by road!
Trains
You might think they would just drive a new train to its destination via the train-tracks it was built to run on, but what you might not know is most trains are made in other countries and each country has its own track width so it would be impossible to drive it to its destination. So they are often transported by road and sometimes by air and sea!
Aircraft Components
It’s not just the main body like you see in this picture, most parts of the plane are transported the same way from the wings to the whole aircraft that are already pre-assembled. If you live near the factories these vehicles are assembled this is probably a normal sight for you!

Oil Rigs
This is not the sort of thing most of us are going to see driving down the road, but it is something that is often transported via normal public roads. Looking at the size of these giant oil rig components you might want to pull over and let them pass you, or even better stay off the roads that day.
Space Shuttle Rockets
If you have ever seen a space shuttle launch you would have also seen those large fuel boosters that are attached to it to help it escape the Earths atmosphere. These giant rocket boosters are often transported around the roads nearby the launch platform!
SuperSized Construction Vehicles
You might think these giant cranes, diggers and tipper trucks are simply driven down the road to its point of destination, but the truth is it would be too dangerous to do that so they are often transported around the country by trucks and sometimes by trucks pulling trucks due to the weight of the giant construct vehicle they are carrying.
Space Shuttle
We have already learned the launch rockets used with the space shuttle are carried on normal roads, but did you also know the space shuttle itself was also transported by road to a museum! While it certainly isn’t the heaviest thing on this list it is one of the largest.

Big Boats
You might often see a van or car carrying a small speed boat to the local lake or sea-front, but did you know most large luxury yachts and sailing vessels are built in-land and that means they have to be transported to the water-side by the roads that we all drive down. It’s certainly not something you would want to be stuck behind.
Power Transformers
As with most of these things on this list, you might have thought they would have assembled these giant power transformers on-site, but due to their complex builds they are often built and pre-assembled elsewhere and that means they have to reach their final destination via roads. They might not be some of the biggest things on this list, but they are probably the heaviest.
You would have thought there are easier ways to transport all of these things, but it does at least mean you get some amazing pictures to look at.
