Top 10 Caterpillar Themed Party Foods

Caterpillars are one of those insects that always get good press. They are drawn as cute and lovable in books and films and never as the highly venomous, masters of disguise that they can be.  But with the bad points of caterpillars put aside we end up with an insect that people tend to make out of all sorts of foods because they are often the perfect shape for kids party’s and snack food. And every now and again something extra special is made in the shape of everyone’s favourite bugs…

Little snack-sized pizzas like these are perfect for a rather amusing caterpillar shaped munch. While there is a making guide in the link I think it is all down to artistic interpretation as to what sorts you use. But this one looks good enough for me to eat.

This amazing chopped chicken & spinach wrap is just a joy to look at let alone eat, but it is my number 1 because the idea behind all of these is to make food fun and if you can make a healthy spinach wrap in the shape of a caterpillar then you deserve number 1 for sure.

  1. You will never be cyberbullied here, and shouldn’t be anywhere else. Sadly the World is full of people that have nothing by hate and want to share it with the World.

  2. I bet if my wife will serve these of food with very beautiful presentation, my kids will not eat it but they will framed it and smile the whole day.

  3. Wow! Some people are wonderful in that they take the time to make their food look fun or beautiful. I just eat it. But these are all incredible.

  4. I was going to suggest you check out the Green Dragon … and then … there it was. I’m biased. It is my favourite to look at and consume!

  5. OMG tripe flavoured witchetty grubs. Now that’s just plain disgusting. I’ve heard that the real ones actually have a chicken-like flavour. I have no intention of doing a taste test to find out if this is true!

  6. OMG! That is the coolest thing ever! I always broke the top from the bottom, but to make a sandwich?! That is just FANTASTIC. Thanks for introducing me to that method. My life is changed. I so wish I saw this before I went to a bbq yesterday where they served cupcakes…..

  7. Maybe one day I will have runb out of ideas and will be forced to do the top 10 meals to make with a witchetty grub, but until that day just silly Edible chocolate caterpillars.

  8. haha LOVE THIS! Totally going to make some of these for my son. Popped on over to check your blog out after you folowed mine. Love the concept! And thanks for the follow! 🙂

  9. My daughter and I both think that #10 is the way to go. So colorful and also delicious to eat. This was definitely a winning post with us. The creativity of people sometimes amaze me.

  10. When I first saw the title, I had visions of Andrew Zimmern and his Bizarre Food show – he loves to eat bugs. I could’t imagine what wiggly creatures you would classify as edible. What a delight to find such yummy caterpillars – now those I would eat with no problem. I like #1 but some of the others could make me drool.

  11. My first thought was…edible caterpillars?? I wondered if you were going to feature witchetty grubs and other such gourmet delicacies. But then I looked further and I have to say I’d have one of these edible crawlers over a witchetty grub any day! Except for the sushi one maybe…

  12. I did see quite a few of those sorts of swiss roll caterpillar cakes but did avoid them because most of them didn’t look any good because they were shop brought, home made ones are far better.

  13. My mama’s definitely going to get some giggles seeing this. I’d love Pancakus Caterpillus and Caterpilli Maishmellowi for my mother because she loves her mallows. Somehow I feel like maybe she’d just stare and giggle at it instead of eat it though hahahaha.

  14. Gives a whole new meaning to “playing with your food”. ha! cute stuff Russell. Cute enough to eat. 🙂

  15. Forget healthy..Cupcakeus Munchus please! My mum used to make a delicious chocolate caterpillar birthday cake made from chocolate swiss roll.. yummy!

  16. The one I would most like to eat is the sushi, followed by the wrap.
I don’t think I have ever eaten a caterpillar, usually they eat my cabbages.

  17. I’m in! Just let me know when you think you’d like to post it (next week). So much elephant cuteness is about to happen.

  18. I have not and I think that would be a great idea as well. Do you fancy making a top 10 cutest baby elephant post? because I think people would really like it.

  19. Sweet! I’d love to perhaps participate in a cutest baby elephant post. 🙂 Searched and couldn’t find where you’ve done one before.

  20. Reblogged this on Bastet and Sekhmet and commented:
What! You’ve never eaten a caterpiller? Have a look at these you may change your mind!

  21. These are not what I expected! But they certainly are cute and delicious looking. Having actually eaten fried grubs and caterpillars in the outback, I must say the ones I had were tastier than shrimp and considering they only eat vegetation rather than poop, I felt happier in my tummy. You always come up the coolest things. I can see one or more of these being put together for your son 🙂

Which one did you like?
