Some say the only way is Essex and that might be right especially if you plan to visit parts of north-east of London. There are of course hundreds of hotels in this area and while I haven’t stayed in all of them I have stayed in enough of them for form an opinion on what I think are ten of the best. So with that in mind here is my own opinion on what I think are ten of the best hotels to stay in while visiting Essex…
Orsett Hall Hotel, Orsett, Grays – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
This beautiful countryside hotel has large, polished rooms and all you need for a relaxing weekend break. With its gym and spa to relax in you won’t want to leave this place and given its low prices you probably don’t have to!
Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel, Old Shire Lane, Waltham Abbey – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
You might be expecting some upscale prices for this upscale hotel, but it really is surprisingly affordable. If you have plans to visit the Lee Valley White Water Centre this hotel is just 15 miles away and has all you need inside its own walls for a fun time like a pretty great indoor pool, sauna, spa, and even a fitness centre.
Novotel London Stansted Airport, Old Shire Lane, Waltham Abbey – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
You might expect an airport hotel to not be up to much, but that is not the case here. It’s not just airport stays that this hotel is good for. Weddings, weekend breaks, and even romantic getaway, this hotel has all of those situations covered and then some. Sure, its a little noisy with the airplanes taking off all the time, but I think the lower price more than makes up for this.
Le Bouchon Brasserie & Hotel, The Square, Heybridge – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
Located right next to the River Blackwell this Georgian riverfront hotel offers some of the biggest, most homely bedrooms you will ever see outside of your own home. If you plan on playing a few rounds at the Maldon Golf Club or a charging visit to the Museum of Power this hotel is for you.

Wivenhoe House Hotel, Wivenhoe, Colchester – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
The wonderful historic house might be old on the outside, but inside the rooms are large and brightly lit. While I wasn’t fussed on the food served here I was impressed with the rooms and when you plan to stay the weekend or longer that is all that counts.
Maison Talbooth Hotel, Dedham, Colchester – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
With views overlooking the beautiful Dedham Vale it is a great hotel for walkers exploring the area. With its own landscaped garden, large pool, spa and a riverside restaurant it has all you need for a great weekend and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Lifehouse Spa & Hotel, Thorpe-le-Soken, Clacton-on-Sea – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
When you visit a spa hotel you just want to get away from things and relax and I have never relaxed as much as I did here. Set in 12-acre historic gardens this relaxing hotel really does take you away from it all and nothing seems out of place or intrusive making everything from the outside to the in help you to unwind.
The Oysterfleet Hotel, Knightswick Road, Canvey Island – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
If you are planning a family getaway to the Adventure Island theme park you should stay here for sure. While it is set in a classic pub style I still found it nice and relaxing. Just remember the low price you are paying as some of the rooms are looking a little dated these days (based on the last time I visited).

Milsoms Hotel and Restaurant, Stratford Road Dedham, Colchester – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
This small, but polished countryside hotel has both a brasserie and a rather lively bar and yet still offers a good nights sleep in comfortable rooms. While I do think it is a little overpriced given what you get for the price I have enjoyed all my stays here even during peak season.
Five Lakes Resort, Tolleshunt Knights, Maldon – Book Now: >> CLICK HERE <<
With not just one but two golf courses to tee-off on this upscale resort is the perfect golf getaway. With a large indoor pool and lots to do for the whole family just short distances like the Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve and even Colchester Zoo it could be a great getaway for golfing dads with their families in tow.
