Have you ever wondered how toys are made? I look at some of the things my little boy plays with and the detail and manoeuvrability of them always amaze me. One thing I have never thought about being made is cuddly toys, that was until today…
10 – Inside out Dog – ateliervolvox.ch
Mostly made the 2 main artists Samuel Coendet and Lea Gerber these toys are a way to show people how to give things new life instead of throwing them away.
9 – Inside out Bear – ateliervolvox.ch
But as you can see the results are a little…odd. But these Zurich designers have also shown me that it is more the shape that people love about their toys, to so much the main look of them.
8 – Inside out Bear – ateliervolvox.ch
It might sound (and indeed look) like a simple idea, but the work and effort of opening, reversing and re-sewing them in a style that still matches the original shape is not one that is done easily.
7 – Inside out Dinosaur – ateliervolvox.ch
They might be weird-looking, but it was this art series that won the Recycling Design Preis 2012 in Germany so they there must be someone other than myself who thinks they look amazing.

6 – Inside out Rabbit – ateliervolvox.ch
All the stuffed toys you see here were found in second-hand shops and nursery schools. All of them in a storage cupboard just waiting to be enjoyed and played with again. Sadly that didn’t happen and they ended up being turned inside out.
5 – Inside out Squirrel – ateliervolvox.ch
Out of all of these artworks, I think this is the one that looks the best being inside out. That little-inverted nose is just too much, and the fluffy Mohawk finishes it off nicely.
4 – Inside out Lion – ateliervolvox.ch
The lion looks a little more dangerous inside out, but what I have learned from seeing these is that there is some serious craftsmanship that goes into making all of these toys, presumably for a cheap price as well.
3 – Inside out Teddy – ateliervolvox.ch
The inside-out eyes are the worst part about these works of art. This bear here seems to have eyes that are looking right through me.

2 – Inside out Elephant – ateliervolvox.ch
Strangely the elephant is one of the toys that looks cute even inside out! But that eye button looks rather nasty and should come with a dangerous parts warning.
1 – Inside out Brown Bear – ateliervolvox.ch
And we end up with this bear who seems to have gained a mischievous look about him after being flipped inside out. So what do you think, do they look better inside out? I would love to know.
