Each society has a norm, a set of rules and way to go about life and everyone is expected to follow along, no questions asked. It doesn’t matter where you’re from – you should do as everyone else does. There’s a worldwide accepted convention (a usual way of doing things) to going through life; go to school, get a job, work hard, get married and get old (gracefully). It’s safe to say that many people agree and it’s what most aspire to. If that’s your goal, go get ‘em, all the best to you. But if you’re like many other people who are going through the steps but something doesn’t quite feel right…STOP IT, NOW! It’s not easy to break away and follow your dreams. Not everyone will support you but here’s why you should consider it…

Life will go by quickly if you’re not excited about it. Fill your life with your passions and forget about being judged by others. They don’t need to understand what makes you happy, so long as you’re not hurting anyone. Embrace your crazy self.

You may not realize it, but we’re programmed to be clones (metaphorically speaking, of course). You’ve heard the term, ‘Just because your friends jump off the bridge, it doesn’t mean you have to.’ Think about your life in a similar way. Try budgie jumping instead – meet your friends halfway.

You’re too comfortable. Boredom thrives in comfort. Naturally, we have a need for comfort and security and that is what often stops us from taking risks and pursuing our goals.

You have the potential to earn as much as you want. Although it’s not easy, many have done it and are doing it – while you’re at work, minding someone else’s business for, too often; a measly salary, limited yearly increase and insane work hours and unrealistic deadlines. No regrets: If you fail, at least, you tried. Thomas Edison said that he failed his way to success. It has been said time and time again that it’s better to have tried and failed than to not have tried at all. When you get to the “end”, you’ll only regret the things you didn’t do.

A natural way to good health is by being at peace with your mind, another reason to follow your dreams. Humour can also take you a long way. You’ll need plenty of it if you’re going to live an unconventional lifestyle.

Take back your time. Time is precious, that’s why you spend it. Dedicate more of your time to yourself. Don’t be selfish, just stop working (all of the time) toward your job’s deadlines and start working toward your own goals. You’re the only one who’s going to truly work hard for yourself.

Be free. It’s what all of us really want. We want to be in control of our lives and in too many ways, we’re not. Imagine what you could accomplish if you had all of the freedom in the world – you finally be a Jedi master, a musician, a beach connoisseur, or likely start your own business – a personal goal for many. While we may never achieve 100% freedom, after all, there are laws to follow – we can start by breaking free from factors that are within our control. Start by getting rid of your fears and make a list of realistic things that you CAN change. Baby steps.
