Finding ten tourist attractions in Spain that are a little on the unusual side was not as easy as you might think. While a lot of the older traditions do seem odd they are not at the levels of weirdness I wanted for this post. But this is what I managed to come up with…
Bardenas Reales
10 – Navarre
The unusual and unique landscape at the Bardenas Reales, Navarra is a Natural Park of wild beauty and was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO

9 – Asturias
A flooded sinkhole might not sound like a great place for kids and adults to take a dip, but this shell shaped little beach is often considered to be one of the best secret places to take a dip!
The Tabernas Desert
8 – Almería
No, this isn’t the wild west, this is the South of Spain in one of Spain’s many semi-deserts, featuring a desert safari and wild west tourist attractions!
The Rio Tinto Mines
7 – Andalusia
Often called “Mars on Earth” this giant opencast mine creates a surreal, almost lunar landscape. Sure it’s nothing more than tin and copper pollution, but it is amazing to look at.

The Human Tower Competition
6 – Tarragona
Spain seems to be the home of events where people get injured. But at least, there are no animals involved in this one. Just a very odd, but also a weirdly amazing event.
Barcelona Supercomputing Center
5 – Barcelona
Visiting a computer might be a little odd, but there really isn’t that many Super Computers in the world that you can actually walk in and see!
Júzcar Village
4 – Málaga
If Smurfs were real this is where they would live. This small but beautiful blue village was originally done as a marketing stunt but they soon realised it looks nice and could be used to attack tourists, which indeed it does.
Parque Gulliver
3 – Valencia
Based on Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels this is not only a giant concrete Gulliver, but it is also a play park with all sorts of very well themed play equipment based on the giant’s image.

Bosque Animado De Oma
2 – Kortezubi
Featuring hundreds of painted on Monterey pine trees, they become a living canvas and is well worth seeing.
El Caminito Del Rey
1 – Málaga
Translated as “The King’s Little Pathway” this is a walk on the wild side with drops that would make your heart skip a beat and glass walkways that will test the bravest of people. If you want to do something a little more unusual while in Spain this has to be it.
