Waterfalls are one of the most magnificent natural wonders that nature offers us with their thousands of tons of water capacity, magnificent views and frightening yet fascinating sounds. When we say famous waterfalls, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is Niagara, but can Niagara win the title of the world’s largest waterfall? We have put together a short list of the most beautiful and largest waterfalls from around the world and they are all well worth seeing…
Jog Falls – Karnataka State, India
With a height of 253 meters, it has taken its place among the highest waterfalls in India and the world. This waterfall, which has a very weak appearance before the rains in the region, turns into a magnificent natural scenery with the monsoon rains.
Huangguoshu Waterfall – Guizhou Province China
Huangguoshu, one of 18 waterfalls located on the Asian continent, is about 80 meters high and 100 meters wide. A beautiful side of the waterfall for visitors is the huge cave carved right behind it, which offers the opportunity to watch this natural wonder up close.
Gullfoss Falls – Hvítá river in Southwest Iceland
This natural wonder, meaning Golden Waterfall, is located on the White river in Iceland. It has a structure consisting of 2 layers and is about 32 meters high. Due to the heavy rain and melting snow in the region, it is the largest waterfall in Europe in summer.
Ban Gioc Water Falls – Quây Sơn River, Vietnam
Detian, one of the largest waterfalls in the world, located between Vietnam and China, has been closed to visitors for a long time due to conflicts between the two countries. However, this natural wonder could not remain hidden any longer and was opened to touristic trips in the recent past.
Blue Nile Falls – Blue Nile river in Ethiopia
It is located in the north of Ethiopia. Although some of it has been constructed as a dam by the state administration, it is among the important tourist attractions of the country.
Kaieteur Falls – Kaieteur National Park, Guyana
It is located right in the heart of the Guyana rainforest. With a height of 226 meters, it is one of the strongest waterfalls in the world.
Angel Falls – Canaima National Park, Venezuela
Located in the jungles of Venezuela, Angel is the highest waterfall in the world. It has a height of about 980 meters. Due to the dense forest, transportation can only be provided by air.
Niagara Falls – New York, USA
Niagara, one of the most famous parks in the world, located between the cities of New York and Ontario in the USA, welcomes millions of visitors from all over the world every year.
Mosi-Oa-Tunya Falls – Zambezi River in Southern Africa
Otherwise known as “Victoria Falls” it is located between Zimbabwe and Zambia, this natural wonder is known as the world’s largest waterfall, but this is not the case. Victoria Falls is 1.7 km wide and 108 meters high.
Iguazu Falls – Iguazu River, Brazil
The most beautiful and largest waterfall in the world, located between Brazil and Argentina, is formed by the combination of a total of 275 large and small waterfalls. The height of the majority of these 275 waterfalls is around 65 m. The most fascinating point of this huge waterfall system is the section called “Devil’s Throat”, which has a U-shaped structure. It is about 82 meters high and 150 meters wide.
