The Boys: 2019

The boys is a comicbook style world in which superheroes are recognized by all as the protectors of the people who are managed and paid by a corporation called The Vought International. The only problem is that not all of these superheroes and good. Most of them are corrupt and they kill and steal from people creating a mess that no one can stop because they have all the power.

A group of seven other superheroes called The Seven seek to change this although they are led by a stubborn narcissistic superhero called The Homelander and that is where you will see the version of Antony Starr that you will love. The show has only become bigger since its first season in 2019 with a third season and lots of spin-offs in the making.

Banshee: 2013 to 2016

An ex-convict leaves prison after 15 hard years that he has served because he took the fall to protect his girlfriend. When he tracks down the girlfriend whom he left the diamonds they stole together, he finds her happily married to the mayor in the small town of Banshee in Pennsylvania. As fate would have it, a new sheriff is coming to town and is killed by a group of gangsters. The con who tried to save the sheriff ends up taking his identity and this begins a series of events that culminated in four seasons of top-notch entertainment. It is by far the best performance by Antony Star who plays the fake sheriff Lucas Hood.

Antony Star wasn’t the main man of this comedy film but it was one of his first major sightings to the American audience. The film follows three friends who decide to take a canoe down the river to track down the site where D B Cooper hid his money. Their rough trip through the river leaves the friends regretting their decision but Anthony Starr’s character didn’t make it that far. Starr played Billy Newwood, the fourth friend of the trio who died while tracking down the treasure on his own. It is the best place to see young Antony Starr.

American Gothic: 2016

The Hawthornes are an affluent family in Boston whose reputation is ruined when it is discovered that their patriarch was a serial killer. It is also discovered that the old man had an accomplice who was a member of the family and the proud family can’t believe it or just doesn’t want to admit it. That is bad because their long-lost eldest son Garrett has just returned and their eldest daughter Allison is running for mayor. Antony Star plays Garret Hawthorne, the black sheep of the family.

Tricky Business: 2012

Imagine Antony Starr as a debt collector! This Australian TV series only had one season but it had a rich performance by Antony Starr who played Matt Sloane, the arrogant debt collector who ends up falling in love with the daughter of a rival family that also runs the debt collection business. As the debt collectors merge in the bond of love, they discover that their problems run deeper than the sheer business rivalry they thought they had.

This was the show that led to Antony Starr landing the role of Lucas Hood in Banshee. The fourth series of the long-running Australian police drama saw Antony Starr take the role of Senior Sargent Charlie Lewis. He is more of a tough administrator in the series rather than an action man as he is in Banshee but his performance was still amazing.

Like in Banshee, Gutterbee starts with Antony Starr’s character Mike Dankworth McCoid leaving prison headed back to his hometown of Gutterbee where the sheriff is his former boss. In Gutterbee, he meets Ewen Breemer a German hoping to open a restaurant that sells sausages in the conservative American town. The two combine efforts trying to set up a restaurant while facing lots of opposition from the local restaurant owners. The film was directed by Starr’s Banshee co-star Ulrich Thomsen.

As you can guess from the title, this film is a sad story and the man at the centre of it all is Jeremy King (Antony Starr) who disappears without a trace while on vacation in Cambodia with his girlfriend Steph, her pregnant sister Alice and brother-in-law Dave. Jeremy’s disappearance remains a mystery to Australian police until Dave remembers an encounter on the fateful night which has memories that carry some dire consequences.

This is actually one of Antony Starr’s longest-running TV series roles and of course one of New Zealand’s longest-running family comedy shows after airing from 2005 to 2010. Antony Starr played the identical twin brothers Van and Jethro West. The show follows the lives of the West family which was formerly in crime until the patriarch decides that it is time, they all changed and earned an honest living. Starr won many awards with the show and it was largely his stepping stone to bigger roles that came to him after 2010 in Australia and the US.

The Movie came right at the peak of Antony Starr’s time in Outrageous fortune which is why it was warmly welcomed in New Zealand. It follows the lives of a park ranger and his wife whose lives take a turn for the worst when their daughter disappears mysteriously. The longer the search takes, the harder the marriage becomes. Antony Starr plays the park ranger John Drean who struggles to keep it together despite the hard time he is having with his wife and local law enforcement.
