I always remember making a pin-hole camera at school. It was nothing more that a pin hole in a show box, but strangely it worked. But what you are about to see is real art, the art of turning almost anything into a camera. From cakes to books to more unusual things…
Top 10 Strange and Unusual Cameras
10 – Cake
If you have the skills to make a tasty looking cake you are a cake master in my eyes. But if you have the skills to make a camera shaped like a cake that looks ultra realistic then you have talent pouring out of you! And it does have to be said that it does look very real indeed.
9 – Can of Coke
I am sure that there is a joke hidden here that if you use diet, you get lighter images, but I am not going to stoop that low. Most people seem to think that this is an art makeover, but this is not true, it really is a working pinhole camera that you can make yourself, but folding the can into this shape might be easier said than done.
8 – Paper
You might well have heard of 3D printing before, but with this there is no expensive printer needed because any normal paper printer can make one of these! Good news if you are looking for something fun to do because there is a full PDF making guide to follow. This might well make for some interesting fun on a rainy day.
7 – Lego
Yep! This really is a camera made from Lego. But unlike the rest of these that are hand-made of art projects, this one is a real item that you can buy online and in the shops. So if you fancy owning one you just need to click on the image link above. But the fact that it is made from Lego makes it worthy of being included here.
6 – Skull
This is as weird as cameras get. This is not a fake, movie prop, this really is a human skull turned into a camera! Made by Wayne Martin Belger this art project entitled “Third Eye” is made from a 150 year old human skull, titanium and gemstones! Very weird indeed, but also strangely beautiful.
5 – Egg
Now it might seem a little bit weird to make a pinhole camera from an egg, but click on that image and see the results because quite frankly it is stunning. I won’t spoil it by telling you here, best you see for yourself.
4 – Tin of Spam
This camera comes with a full step by step making guide if you want to make your own and goes to show that you can make a camera from just about anything. I am sure there is a hidden meaning here behind the use of the tin of spam, but maybe I am wrong.
Halloween is over and you have taken a look at my post “Things to do with pumpkins” but didn’t like the look of any of them. Well, why not turn that unused pumpkin into a camera! Best of all is that there is a video guide to follow in the image link if you fancy making your own.
2 – Book
This camera book is from a very talented ETSY maker who does, in fact, sell them! Done by literally hollowing out the book and making the camera inside the empty space it is essentially a modern spin on the original pin whole camera some of us have made at school.
1 – Armadillo
I find the art of Taxidermy weird anyway, but turning any animal into a camera is far beyond my own weird imagination. But that is exactly what artist Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs did in a rather strange art series called “As Long As It Photographs It Must Be A Camera” which if you like the unusual is well worth visiting on the image link.
