Slovenian artist Franc Grom makes intricate designs by painstakingly using a pin drill to pierce patterns onto eggshells! These Easter-themed art pieces made out of delicate eggshells are one of those things you have to see to be believed…

This first one really shows the detail that Franc can get with his drill, as you might amazing each one is very delicate and now and then they do indeed break on his hands. And yes that is him behind the egg.

These designs typically include 2,000 to 3,000 holes and take months to complete just one egg. That there is devotion to the Easter egg decorating spirit!
8 – Cat – francgrom.weebly.com
For an artist who is a very impressive 75 this year some of his designs are a little child-like. But maybe it was commissioned by someone a lot younger.
7 – Musical Eggs – www.gourmet.com/food/gourmetlive/2012/032812/grom/treble-clef.html
I would imagine the artist draws on the egg in pencil before making the designs, or he has what is often called the “artists eye” either way they are all very impressive indeed.

Sadly I have looked all over the web and it seems Mr Grom doesn’t actually have a website to point these images back to, so they all go back to the source so you can at least see a few more designs and learn a little more about the artist with each link.
5 – Ivan Cankar – artstormer.com/2013/03/26/shell-game-easter-egg-art-by-franc-grom
Most people might not have heard of Ivan Cankar before, but this writer born in 1876 in the village of Vrhnika is praised as a premier Slovene writer of his time and he lived just 2 miles from Grom’s home! Hence the reason it inspired him to make this art piece.
4 – Che Guevara – artstormer.com/2013/03/26/shell-game-easter-egg-art-by-franc-grom
Made in 2011 it was made at the request of a close, personal friend of Groms. While the front is obviously the Che Guevara portrait, the back of the egg features Slovene lace motifs.

Even national monuments like the Eiffel Tower get the egg art treatment. Franc Grom gets invited all over the world to perform his art, with many pieces being commissioned by national art galleries.

2 – Globe – www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2157812/Thats-shell-sculpture-Artist-makes-intricate-designs-painstakingly-using-pin-pierce-patterns-eggshells.html
Anyone that can paint a globe with grid lines onto an eggshell gets my respect, but to drill it out of it leaves me in awe. Serious, the hand coordination to do this must be tremendous.
1 – Hole Ridden – artstormer.com/2013/03/26/shell-game-easter-egg-art-by-franc-grom
Most of Franc Grom’s eggshells have between 2,000 to 3,000 holes, but some of them have tens of thousands of holes, and that can’t be easy to make in any respect.
