Said to be the smallest in the UK this is pretty much a small family home than a full castle, but it is officially classed as one. A castle is classed as “a private fortified residence of a lord or noble.” In this castle once lived Edward Blore who designed and help build Buckingham Palace! It’s almost as small as these houses as seen in a previous post.

Built actually inside the mouth of a cave in south-central Slovenia, its name means “the castle in front of the cave” and was built around the 12th century and done in a Gothic style.

Unlike Prague Castle, this castle is most probably the largest in the world. With 143,591 square meters or land compared to 66,761 square meters, it is almost 3 times the size! But who I am to argue with Guinness Book of Records!?

Said to be one of Argyll’s most romantic castles it is located on a small rock island to the north of Port Appin and was gifted to King James IV as a hunting lodge! It makes you wonder what they were hunting!

This is one of three royal palaces built for Louis II (Mad King Ludwig) of Bavaria. Set within the Bavarian Alps it sits high above the Pullat River gorge and was the first castle in the world to have flushable toilets!
