Utes or rather pickup trucks are the best selling vehicles in both Australia and the USA. It’s every hard working guy or gals dream to have a brand new ute. Here are the best buys in Australia for 2018.

Chevy Silverado

The USA’s Chevy is about to hit Australian shores with the Chevy Silverado. Chevy’s are a rarity down under but the new Silverado will officially become available in select Holden and HSV dealerships across Aus in 2018. Left to right Chevy conversions have of course been available to the private Australian market but we don’t see many hit dealerships.

Toyota Hilux

Of course we can’t make a post about the top utes to buy in Australia without including the Toyota Hilux. It’s Australia’s favourite ute. For 2018 Toyota have done away with the slow-selling 4.0-litre V6 engine, have increased prices and are offering new variants.

Ford Ranger

Likely Australia’s second favourite ute, Ford is debuting a new Ranger in 2018. The Australian-engineered T6 Ranger will be returning home to the USA this year as customers and Ford execs alike have been so impressed. It will form the basis for the iconic Ford Bronco’s return. Australia will, of course, continue to be the development hub for the Ranger.

Mercedes X Class

The ute of the upper class, Mercedes V6 turbo diesel due out in June 2018 is expected to exceed $70,000. On the other end of the price scale the most basic Mercedes ute will go for upwards of $45,000 plus on road costs, complete with unpainted bumpers, vinyl floor, no ute tub and only two-wheel-drive.

Revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Amarok Aventura for 2018 is getting a boost to its 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, to 190kW. The Amarok is a ute for the discerning driver, with 19-inch polished alloys, sports bar and chrome accented running bars.

LDV T60

The Chinese commercial vehicle brand LDV, is competing directly with the likes of the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, Australia’s favourite utes. The T60 however undercuts its rivals at the price point with the range starting at just $28,990.

Holden Colorado SportsCat

Holden Colorado SportsCat

The Holden Colorado SportsCat by HSV is scheduled to launch in February 2018. The Colorado has been tweaked for new sales but hasn’t been given a full overhaul. It’s based on the Colorado Z71. HSV has tweaked the exterior design and on-road performance but have left the engine as is.

Mitsubishi Triton

The Mitsubishi Triton is as always, great value for money, being slightly more affordable than its counterparts while offering the same driveability. It is yet unknown just what the Triton will be like in 2018 with the recent acquisition of Mitsubishi by Nissan but it’s bound to be good.

Mazda BT50/Isuzu D-Max

Mazda and Isuzu are ending their ties with Ford and GM for their next-generation utes. The 2018 models are set to focus more on utility and servicing the Asian market. We’re not sure exactly what form the partnership with Mazda and Isuzu will take but we’re betting the engineering is going to be slick.

Dodge Ram

Dodge Ram

The 2018 Ram was leaked during a dealer meeting and its got everyone talking. The Ram is available in a left-hand drive conversion in Australia currently. Demand has skyrocketed, however, pushing FCA Australia to insist on a right-hand drive from the factory.
