Top 10 Creative and Unusual Chandeliers

It is the law that when you are a Nerd like me, you instantly know how to fix PC’s, tablets and all sorts of general household electronics. The fact that I can indeed fix them is irrelevant! This blog starts just a week before this blog post, I was going round a neighbour’s house to fix their laptop and in the front room, they had a chandelier! I have never seen one in a house before so I started to Google some information about them. But what I come up with is something even more amazing than owning a plain, old normal one, because I managed to stumble across…

Top 10 Creative and Unusual Chandeliers

10 – Recycled Pens

The chandeliers these days can be made of almost anything, you can keep your crystal pendants, these days it is all about recycling, and upcycling. And the idea of using old Biro pens to made an alternative, but rather an amazing chandelier really is a good one.

9 – Old Music Cassettes

What better way to use up all those old cassette tapes (ask your parents if you don’t know what one is) because a chandelier made out of them looks rather amazing if you ask me.

Chandelier made from Barcode

8 – Barcode

This isn’t so much upcycling, more design chandelier, but if you ask me it is nothing short of amazing, sure it is just laser cut with black and transparent acrylic, but it still looks cool!

Chandelier made from Ink-Cartridges

7 – Recycled Ink-Cartridges

This rather amazing, and a very alternative chandelier is made from old Epson ink cartridges, sadly there was only ever one ever made, but it might well be worth trying to copy it because I think it is incredible.

6 – Wizards of the Coast: the Gathering Magic Cards

It doesn’t matter how ‘alternative’ you think your own chandelier might be, it will never get as nerdy as this one made entirely from Magic: The Gathering playing cards! It might well be the World’s Nerdiest Chandelier, but it also is one of the best looking.

5 – Plastic children’s play dolls

Over in Portland, Oregon someone has made this rather scary looking chandelier that is just about as ‘alternative’ as you will ever get. But it also has to be said that there is also something strangely nostalgic about it.

4 – Exploded Party Poppers

Welcome to the after party celebrations, because this rather amazing and very alternative chandelier is made from over 1000 used party poppers! Given that we would all normally throw them away, this is something very beautiful indeed.

Chandelier made from Chiquita Banana Labels

3 – Chiquita Banana cartons

I love bananas and of course, given that they are the major brand of bananas I eat plenty of  Chiquita ones, and if ever there was a fantastic use of the cardboard cartons you get with them then this is right up there, it doesn’t just look great it looks almost beautiful!

2 – Plastic Milk Crates

It has to be said that there is something strangely amazing about this one. Maybe it is a large size or the original, older chandelier peeking out of the middle, or maybe it is just great recycling and would make any fantastic talking point in any home.

Chandelier made from Gummy Bears

1 – Gummy Bears

When Kevin Champeny makes an alternative chandelier he does it in truly epic style as this is in fact made from over 3000 hands cast acrylic Gummi Bears! I don’t know about you, but for this was a clear winner for me and nothing short of a win on all counts.

  3. Thanks for following me and leading me to you. This blog is hands-down FANTASTIC! I look forward to perusing it.

  4. Really? Well it’s true. How long have you been doing this blog, by the way? I myself just started a few months ago. I’m still pretty new to all of it.

  5. “3000 hand cast acrylic Gummi Bears” Not to worry. I was wondering about flies but then reread the description. 🙂

  6. I can’t wait to see what you will think of next. My favorites are the pens, barcode and of course the gummy bears. You always manage to put a smile on my face. Can’t wait for tomorrow.

  7. I love the Magic card one – that is so great! I also think Barbie is a bit creepy but I wonder what happens to gummy bears when it gets too hot up there. I also like the Chiquita banana one – it makes a cool design that could be used in other ways as well.

  8. Surprisingly, I find myself gravitating toward the Bic Pen chandelier as my favorite. It really is lovely and looks elegant. I was surprised to read it was made from old ink pens! I like the Magic Card one, too. But the Barbie Doll one … yikes — too creepy! o.o

  9. Ok even weirder! The Barbie one is a bit creepy! I could actually make the card one, my son’s use to be into Yu-Gi-Oh and must have hundreds of the cards somewhere buried in the depths of their teenage rooms… don’t think I want to go digging though! 🙂

  10. I’m loving the gummy bear one, though I have to say…not sure it would last very long in my house lol. Nice post Russell!

  11. Yeah, to be honest my child is a little bit off. She is only two and really enjoys the idea of “scary spookies” as she calls them, creatures and critters. A bunch of Barbies combines her love of scary things with her love of Barbies in general.

  12. I want all of these, but my husband would definitely be creeped out by that barbie one, and my daughter would go ape shit crazy for it haha. Great post!

  13. Make sense… I’m slow today…
There is a pretty awesome ink calender. You put an ink bottle on its side next to the 1 and the paper absorbs the ink with the days. It’s pretty awesome!

  14. Love the biro one. And the dolls one has given me an idea, my youngest though too old no to play with her dolls refuses to throw them out and they clutter up her room. I wonder, though if having them hanging from the ceiling would give her the creeps?

  15. I want the gummy bear one! And I want to hang it over my bed. That way, if I wake in the middle of the night I have thousands of friendly faces guarding my sleep.

  16. I totally thought that said calenders at first…. Wow…. *facepalm*….

The Barbie one is CREEPY!!! And I would be afraid the gummy bear one would melt /:
