Top 10 Unusual Things Made With Gingerbread

This is not so much nursery rhyme inspired more kids cooking time inspired because it just doesn’t matter where you live or what sort of upbringing you have had you have definitely done one of these two things. 1) Made a Gingerbread house or maybe 2) seen a picture of one. In my opinion, the humble Gingerbread house is like an old watercolour painting, even the bad ones look great and they are all open to artistic interpretation meaning they don’t have to look like a house at all! So with that in mind lets walk through the gallery they call the internet and try to discover just what is…

Inspired by everyone’s favourite “Grumpy Cat” is this rather cool looking Gingerbread house that is so amazing even Grump cat himself might crack a smile at it because I know I did!

9 – The house that dunk built

A Gingerbread house that you can not only dunk in your tea or coffee but that is also made especially so it can hang on the side of the cup is always going to be amazing and it really doesn’t disappoint, practical and tasty!

Gingerbread Doctor Who K9

Not so much gingerbread house more dog house, but that doesn’t take anything away from this rather awesome Gingerbread K-9 I just looks amazing and brings a nice big smile to my face every time I look at it.

7 – The old woman’s Gingerbread house

This is a real spin on the gingerbread house from the story books as it also covers the “old woman” nursery rhyme as well, it looks amazing, tasty and is well worth a place on this list.

Gingerbread Hobbit House

6 – The Lord of the Ginger Rings! (…why did that sound rude?!?)

Bilbo Baggins would definitely give this a thumbs up as it is a Gingerbread Hobbit house! Even the little village sign is made from Gingerbread. The whole thing is amazing if a little impossible for us mere mortals to think about copying.

Gingerbread Portal Cube

5 – The perfect companion.

What I really liked about this Gingerbread Portal 2 cube is that any of us could make it! If you think about it, it is only 5 (if you don’t make the bottom) sides and that means only 5 flat pieces of Gingerbread to make and a little bit of icing!

Gingerbread Serenity

4 – Made with perfect serenity

For those that don’t know, this ship “Serenity” is a fictional spaceship that appears in Joss Whedon’s Firefly television series.

3 – The Best Ever?!?

I just had to include this one because not only is it on of the few actual houses made from Gingerbread but it is also incredible and it is as simple as that. It looks stunning and is in fact rather basic in design meaning most of us could have a go at making it. Well, try anyway!

Gingerbread TARDIS

2 – Who made this!

Is that really a Gingerbread TARDIS? Oh yes! You can stop rubbing your eyes because it’s real and would go great at any little nerds birthday party. (even I would go nuts for it!)

Imperial AT-AT of gingerbread house

1 – Gingerbread Wars?!?

Some people make large gingerbread houses, some make small ones and other go way beyond anything you would have ever seen before, and that is where this jaw-dropping Gingerbread AT-AT comes into it! It not only looks EPIC it most probably tastes it as well!

  1. Well, now you have. What a great post! Since I saw this first, you’ve added Christy’s Holiday house, and that is just gorgeous! I see Christy is a frosting lover…Oh, the colors in that one! Bravo!!!

  2. Impossible to pick a favorite – they’re all awesome (though I did have the urge to just pick Star Wars themed ones in order not to break my habits…)
    🙂

  3. This is some serious art talent to develope. These are really hard to make. Don’t think so try a couple. The patience is there at the very least to invest in.

  4. Yeah, you’re right. You know, it’s so surreal to watch “Doctor Who” and see commercials … LobsterFest commercials, no less. When I was little, you could only see “Doctor Who” on PBS. You had to sit through pledge breaks sometimes, but never commercials. It’s funny how different it is now….

  5. I suppose so because one usually does it for the holidays. However, there isn’t any reason it can’t be done at any other time of year – especially since everything is aimed at Christmas.

What’s so great about these is they aren’t geared to Christmas, they are just having fun creating.

  6. very cool…I used to make Gingerbread houses at Christmas time for and with my children…was great fun, I do think we ate more of the candy decorations than we put on the house though… thanks for the reminder.

  7. Wow what a lovely post! First thought the Hobbithome is my favorite, than scrolled down to the callboxes. I admire all the patience people put in the tiny details.

  8. Umm…. Kinda… We took a giant cylinder of paper and glued it to a poster board and painted it brown and put green icing on the poster board so it looked like a tree. That doesn’t really count though.
Some other people I know made the Taj Mahal (spelling?) and the Eiffel Tower and I think the twin towers and the empire state building.

  9. This is a tough call, I want to give it to Serenity, but the AT-AT, Hobbit House and K9 are pushing serious voltage. If I must I’d say K9, Hobbit….nah…AT, Serenity, K…nah…ugh. Forget it, Those four are number one.

  10. *LOL* I know that feeling with the poorly built gingerbread house. So would you say these are a festive thing? I got the impression a lot of people seem to think it is.

  11. I made a gingerbread house long, long ago – it was hard to get the things to stay up while putting it together, and then it wouldn’t sit straight. However, it tasted very good. After seeing these, my piddly effort was better eaten than displayed. These are so creative – imagine doing curves in gingerbread and doing them so well. These are the times I feel I don’t have much imagination – or is it that I assume I can’t do it. Well, I think I will make one this year for Christmas – I choose to come from a place of Yes!

  12. These are amazing! Where would we all be without the wonders of the gingerbread house? The last one I made was well over twenty years ago, and…in chocolate!
Special big gold stars for Grumpy Cat, that incredible “old Woman’s shoe,” the wonderful Tardis (!) and that gloriously rendered “Classic,” which went back to the roots of the gingerbread house splendidly, and made me smile so much, I think it stopped raining!

Which one did you like?
