Is it ‘old school’ now days to burn my own CD’s from my music collection? You see, whilst I do buy all my tracks from Google Music I still like to download it and burn it to a CD so I can play it in the car. I don’t have a posh car so all it has is a CD player in it. But now I seems to be getting quite a collection of empty plastic CD/DVD Spindles, so what I need is some ideas about what I can do with them, so I thought I would find out what I think is…

10 – Become Wireless!

Why not use the disk spindles natural shape and use them to store old wires from various PC’s and and other electrical items. Not a bad thing at all because placing wire curled up in the lid of a spindle with keep it tangle free and then locking the bottom bit will it hold it there for when you need them! This is a recycling master class.

9 – Race Time!

Why not put a few holes in the top of it and turn it into a Hamster run wheel!? This is the work of pure genius and I think the hamster would find it fun as long as it was able to run perfectly forward and it was dust free. Just a shame I don’t have a hamster.

8 – The Spindle Green House

This is a strange one for you, apparently by turning a old CD spindle case into a mini propagator you can grow some succulents in just a few days! Keeping the lid on (with a few air holes) and only taking it off to water them now and again make for the perfect little desk green house! Recycling and DIY office garden, not a bad idea at all.

7 – Hang around!

While I don’t wear earnings myself I thought I would include this idea because it makes great use of the original shape of the spindle and by placing the lid back on to it would become a portable jewellery box as well! Great recycling and a fantastic idea.

6 – Wet Wet Wet

Singing your CD’s in the shower is a right of passage! So why not use the spindle to make a DIY shower head. If your own shower end it broken this just might be a great idea, but as there is no guide on how to do it, I suspect it is not as easy as it looks.

5 – Burn some games off!

If you fancy having some fun with the little ones then you will do far worst than to make those DVD spindles into board game spinners! With a range of inserts it would be the ultimate thing to replace those lost dice.

4 – “Fancy a tea and some biscuits while I burn that CD off for you?!?”

If you like to have a cheeky biscuit or cookie with your high tea then why not turn those CD spindles into a decorative container that has the handy feature of locking when you don’t need to present the them! This is a real showcase on how creative people can be.

3 – Music to the ears of birds!

Now this is what I call recycling, why not make great use of those old empty cd spindles by changing them into DIY bird feeders! While the image link doesn’t have a making guide it doesn’t look too hard to make and might just be worth a go.

2 – I have seen the light!

Now this is a VERY impressive use of my empty DVD spindle. With a great step-by-step guide to making this spindle lamp in the image link it just might we worth a go and because you can place any images you like around the inside of the plastic lid it will illuminate anything I want it to! I just love this idea as it could be make for a great handmade gift.

9 – Before E-Mail

Normal postal services these days is called “Snail Mail” and while it does take forever to send and receive a letter I for one enjoy nothing more than seeing a hand written letter from someone, it just seems more personal.

What a great image of what is most probably a very young snail or maybe just a real small one. Either way this is a great image and just makes me smile.

7 – “Hear me RROOOAAARRRR!!!”

This is a great picture of a snail in full lift. Maybe it could be seen as an attack mode, but I like to see it as the snail looking up and paying attention to the camera.

6 – Careless Whispers

Now this should definitely bring a smile to a few people faces at least! This great image of a tiny baby snail whispering into their mums ear (that is what it looks like to me anyway) is sheer brilliance.

5 – “This is the slowest taxi…EVER!”

These amazing images were taken in heavy rain in Borneo, Indonesia and seems to show a snail giving a lift of a baby praying mantis. It most probably don’t know it is up on it’s shell but it is still cute and if you click on the image there is the full story in images!

4 – The “Janthina janthina” Or its common name ”the common purple snail”

If a purple snail doesn’t make you smile then not much will! Sadly common snails are not the most colourful of the creatures of this plant, but there are a few that can surprise us much like this fairly bright purple one.

When Japan builds a kids slide for a local playground they do it in epic style. This bum numbing slide is so long that from start to finish it takes the average child 110 seconds to reach the end! Is it the World’s longest playground slide? I would like to bet it is.

This designer play area is shaped like a reclining giant and it supposed to be inspired by “Childhood Wonder” Seen somewhere not that far from the Hudson River in Manhattan I think it looks great and really does capture how a child might well see a play park.

This is not the biggest playground in the World, but it is often said that Ziegler hold the record for the Worlds tallest playground slides. And this one seen in Denmark is one of the biggest, I have no idea exactly how tall, but it really does look like a beast to climb & fun!

2 – Särkänniemi Adventure Park, Finland

If ever there was a video-game that should and indeed has inspired a whole play ground off it, then Angry Birds is it. And it really doesn’t disappoint anyone, it looks amazing, well designed and fits in with the whole angry bird Universe.

1 – Salford Docks, London

Sadly not much is really known about this quite frankly stunning play-park. Said to be in a fairly rich part of the London docklands (like that narrows it down!) this is made by designers unknown. But all those unknowns don’t stop it from being the most amazing playground I have ever seen making it definitely World class.

Sadly you can’t buy this rather creative Lady Bird Vs. Bumble Bees checkers set but the moment I saw it, it made me smile and that is a sign that it is something rather special indeed. It is creative, genius and dare I say rather beautiful!

If you have spare money to burn why not use it to get this ultimate, luxury checkers set! The pieces are made from solid brass and plated with 24K Gold/Silver. Personally I would be too sacred to scratch what is probably the World’s most expensive checkers set to play it, but I would be more than happy to keep it on display if ever I win the lottery.

Some of you will remember my post “10 Best Ever Kit Kat Cakes” and this rather basic but none the less tasty looking chocolate finger cake seems to be a spin on those kit-kat ones. No recipe or making guide in the image link but still a great example of them.

What I like about this one is something that is probably not intentional.  But just image you have this cake in fount of you and now image how easy it is to cut into equal pieces with the fingers laid down on the top of it like they are. There is nothing “light” about this cake, but those floating Maltesers are a touch of pure genius, because when I saw this one on Google Plus I knew instantly what it was saying right away (showcasing the “lighter than chocolate” slogan from the adverts for them.) Once again no recipe or making guide, but this is one cake that not only deserves recognition but also the praise it received. Tasty, creative and genius all in one cake!

5 – Don’t Flake out!

This one was previously seen in my post “10 Best Ever Cakes Made With Flakes” and while it sadly, once again doesn’t have a recipe of making guide the flake topping makes this one a real feast for the eyes and I would imagine the mouth as well.

4 – Not for squares

Not only an unusual square shape but also topped off with some rather tasty Cadbury’s milk tray! If you know a fan of the milk tray box sweets then this might well be the perfect Birthday cake for them. This is just about as posh as a chocolate finger cake is ever going to get. Made with fine ingredients and some luxury Ferrero Rocher to top it off this cake is as good as they come. And best of all is that you cake make your own with a fantastic video guide at the bottom of this post! And all you have to do is change a few things and you should be able to replicate any cake on this top 10 in fact!

2 – Flying The Flag

What better way to celebrate the “Britishness” of these humble biscuit fingers than to make a chocolate finger cake with the Union Jake made from M&M’s on top of it!  Again no recipe of making guide but still a fantastic example of creativity and design, plus with different coloured M&M’s you could make the flag on top of the cake your own country.

About a year ago now me and my little boy had great plans to go cycling every day and to have fun exploring the Welsh countryside with our bikes. So I got myself one and one that attaches to the back of mine that my little boy could ride. But 2 weeks after getting them it started to rain here in the UK and didn’t stop till last week! That might be a slight exaggeration but you get the point.  But sadly my boy is now into football! He hates going for rides and just wants to play ball all day. But what about mine and his bikes? What am I suppose to do with them? Well it seems they might not be the only bikes that will never be rode again as I show you what I think is….

Now this is impressive, this is a wrought iron gate made from an old bicycle! While much like mine it well never be rode again it does indeed look amazing.

8 – That bike lock will never be touched again.

When it is mating time for Eastern Tent Caterpillars they go all out and mate in large groups leaving a silk web behind them. And when the decide to gather on something like a bicycle locked to a tree the results are quite frankly amazing if a little odd.

7 – I won’t let art get away with this!!!

What you are looking at is not some guerilla knitting granny’s group but it is in fact called “Yarnbombed”  and is done by an artist know as Olek. Well it does kind of look cool and it is certainly not going to be rode again for a very long time at least.

6 – Ride thru restaurant.

A company called “D-Bodhi” has decided to make some rather amazing stools from old children’s trike’s and uni-cycles, attach some cool blue neon lights to the bottom of the main eating bar and you have a cycle that will never be rode again, but looks brilliant.

5 – Wash ‘N’ ride

If you have been following this blog for a while you will know that I do love a bit of upcycling, and it looks like Benjamin Bullins does as well because he has created this rather amazing bathroom sink and best of all used the front shopping basket to a towel holder!

4 – A cycle block planter?!?

Now this is more my cup of tea, nothing too complicated but yet the results of hanging an old bike on the garden fence then attaching a few hanging plants looks nothing short of stunning and such a simple idea to replicate. I wonder if it would work with a mountain bike!?

Appropriately called the ‘Tree-Cycle’  this amazing Christmas tree is made from over 100  old bikes donated by a local recycling company. I might not have a hundred of them to make this Christmas tree myself, but I still think this is amazing.

There are many great examples of old bicycles made into a fences but for me this is the best one, such a fairly simple idea but it just looks incredible, thought looking at it, it will not stop anything from getting into the garden, or out of it.

When Peter Horstmann moved from Canada to Germany he wanted to open up a bicycle shop. But when customers brought in their old bikes for new he didn’t just recycle them he made clever use of them by attaching them to his shop! 10 – Will summer EVER get here?

We are still having some snow here in the UK (mostly Scotland) and many people are wondering if we will ever see summer this year. But when you end up with houses that look this amazing covered unintentionally in snow I think it is always beautiful to see.

9 – The cost of living.

This was in fact done for an advert for ArgosCompare.co.uk because they were trying to show just how much money they could save the entire UK if they used there market compare service. In fact it turns out to be £12 billion and the entire house we wrapped in wrapping paper made to look like £50 notes. Shame it wasn’t real ones because that would have just been silly!

8 – Spooky!

This rather odd building used to be a number of different things including a , prison house, school and even a funeral home! French artists Christophe Berdaguer and Marie Péjus decided that one year they would give this now family home a ghostly cloak of polystyrene and paint to make it look like glue or some sort of ghost. Strangely it is kind of cool!

7 – I think we need a bigger mower.

When a home owner decided that Cannock Chase Council was talking rubbish about his over grown home (that he owned) he let it get worse and worse until it was at it’s peak that you see in the image. It has now been cut back but it does made you wonder if any sunlight even managed to get inside.

The artist Harumi Yukutake agrees with me and thinks that the outside of a home does need to be seen and so he covered it thousands of mirrors with the idea being that it blended in with its natural surroundings. Did it work? I think so.

5 – I wonder what it is!

Having just returned from their honeymoon Neale and Alana Grant returned to find that the best man at the wedding has in fact wrapped the whole house in silage wrap! The wrap is normally used to wrap those large round bails of hay you see in the farmer fields so you just know it was ultra strong and took a while to get into their home again.

4 – This tops the lot!

This home in Russia is covered in over 30,000 bottle tops! The home owner Olga Kostina spent several years tacking the plastic tops on, but I do have to wonder where she got them all from, because lets face it, that is a awful lot of whatever liquid it was.

3 – The perfect home for Cruella de Vil

This might look like a cool home but sadly it is a bit of a sad story, you see when Goran Tomasic and his wife Karme come home one day their much loved Dalmatian had sadly passed away. So out of respect they painted their entire house in Dalmatian spots. Sure it is a little odd, but the home also looks kind of cool as well!

2 – Who needs air fresheners?!?

This home in Scotland that is almost completely covered in flowers and hanging baskets  is stunning to look at and well worth going to see in person. But lets face it! It would take forever in a day to replicate it and there an’t nobody that got time for that!

1 – The ultimate  green home.

Strangely these Japanese creeper vines might well look like ivy but they are definitely not. More commonly known as Boston ivy or Grape ivy, but they are mostly well know because these vines grow like it is going out of fashion and will cover a whole house like you see above in just a matter of months, yes that is from scratch! Super growth indeed, but also super cool because it might well be invasive but it does make a house look amazing.
